Da Nang & Surounding Areas Sponsorship Project

Location

Various villages and districts of Quang-Nam Da-Nang, Hue & other scattered provinces in Central Vietnam.

Background for project

During a site visit in 2003, H4H representative was approached by Sr Xuan Bui from St Paul Hue to consider the situation of some of the carefully selected children from the underprivileged families. One-third of the students are from Quang Nam-Da Nang, the rest are from Hue and some other scattered provinces.

Current situation

Hands For Hope Education Sponsorship Program had kick off started on trial basis in September 2003-2004 academic school year and it is now in its second year.

76% of students from this project are in their junior high and above and the current situation of this project is positive. We have been sponsoring 2 university students who are in their second year, 3 students just sat for their university entrance exams, and a proud 5 TAFE graduates who are now working as teachers at various provinces.

Outcome sought to achieve

Providing access to education for the underprivileged and the disadvantaged and consequently enhancing the career prospective for future Vietnamese.

We encourage students to at least complete their secondary education before enroll in apprenticeship. For those 76% students from junior high and above, we strongly encourage them to advance their education until they graduate from university or TAFE. The graduates’ career prospective will be followed after graduation.
