Phụng Hiệp Educational Sponsorship Project
Location
Phụng Hiệp, Cần Thơ province in South Vietnam.
Background for project
To sponsor children so that they can receive an education at their local schools. The sponsorship covers school fees, school uniforms, text books and stationaries.
Current situation
The regions is one of the most remote poverty stricken rural towns with high illiteracy, not easily accessible and often overlooked by charity organisations. There is no medical clinic and people living here are deprived of most other basic necessities. Children have to help their parents to find food to survive daily, through either paid manual work, or walking the street to sell tattslotto tickets, or more dangerously, by going deep into the wild forest to gather fire woods or honey to sell.
The sponsorships ensure the children receive an education, so that they have the opportunity to have brighter future and to be of greater help for their families and their communities.
If funding continues to be available, we aim to maintain these educational sponsorships for as long as the children’s potential and willingness allow them to continue with their education. With further funding, we also aim to expand the number of children being sponsored in these regions.
