Background for project

Hoi Loc, Nhon Hoi village is an island which is an hour by boat to the east of Quy Nhon city, Phu Yen province. Nhon Hoi has approximately 10,000 inhabitants with the majority of its people working in the farming and fishing industries. Most families are poor and many children do not have access to education . Children who are not at school are often found wandering from place to place, with their clothes soiled and hands and faces dirty.

Current Situation

Nhon Hoi has only one primary school and pupils walk 3-5km to school everyday. In September 2003, H4H together with Pho Dung Tan Dinh Richmond helped in restoring an old house to a 2 classrooms, running 4 classes a day with the capacity of 30-40 pupils in each class.

At the same time of the restoration of the classrooms, Hands For Hope Education Sponsorship Program has also commenced to assist the brightest and poorest students on the island.

2005-2006: 25

Aim

  • Improve the education level amongst the underprivileged and the disadvantaged children on the island
  • Sponsored children will at least complete their Secondary education level
  • Ultimate goal is to enhance the career prospective for the sponsored children
